MUSEEUW MFC-3 ROAD FRAMESET
With the TOUR Series Museeuw Bicycles engineered a specific range for the advanced recreational cyclist. Through the merger of our signature shock absorption material FlaxPreg© and a comfort geometry, we designed and developed a product that is set for an ideal performance and guarantees a comfort ride with better handling. Essentially by implementing the perfect blend of a fast and agile steering, combined with a more upright sitting posture. Our 1.0 and 3.0 models represent the perfect Granfondo road bike within these series.
Carbon has been used in the production of high-end race frames for many years now. It is suitable for manufacturing lightweight frames in various shapes, sizes and designs, and as a chemical composite it also offers a very high level of stiffness. The stiffer the frame, the faster the ride. However, carbon as a chemical fibre transmits microshocks to the cyclist’s body, so a carbon frame is by definition uncomfortable. Manufacturers endeavour to solve this problem by adapting the bike’s geometry or by mixing the carbon with another chemical fibre. The best solution, however, is exclusive to Museeuw Bicycles and is a natural fibre (flax) mixed with the carbon composite.
Comparison tests have shown that the addition of flax to a carbon frame improves the absorption of microshocks by up to 20%. The scientific explanation for this is that each individual natural fibre is unique (just as a snowflake is) and two individual fibres will therefore differ from each other. The variety of flax fibres combined with the carbon fibre produces a new composite that offers improved microshock-absorbing properties.
A tapered headset or conical head features larger bearings under the steering tube. This reduces the pressure on the lower bearing and stiffens the headset. This increased stiffness ensures faster steering behaviour. The front forks of Museeuw Bicycles incorporate FlaxPreg and therefore ensure a comfortable ride with shock-absorption. The oversized lower bearing adds stiffness. In a nutshell, this is “TECHNOLOGY AND COMFORT COMBINED”.
There is a direct connection between the comfort afforded by a frame and its performance. A frame that does not include FlaxPreg will (just like a Powerplate) transmit microshocks to the body. The muscles will compensate for these shocks. This results in loss of performance given that the muscles tire more easily on a less shock-absorbing frame. By minimising these microshocks due to the addition of FlaxPreg, you, the cyclist, will experience less fatigue. Your cycle ride will be more pleasant and you will be able to cycle more comfortably for longer periods of time, thus enhancing performance.
The MFC 1.0 and MFC 3.0 models are equipped with a Press-Fit BB86 Bottom Bracket; the bearings are no longer installed outside of the frame in external BB cups but instead in the oversized pedal axle housing with a diameter of 41 mm and a width of 86.5 mm. Besides lowering the Q factor and increasing bracket stiffness, the BB86 bracket also offers other advantages. The bearings are press-fit directly into the pedal axle housing. This makes for a narrower crankset and reduces the weight in comparison to a normal crankset for external BB cups.
Whereas other manufacturers often focus on the weight of the frame, Museeuw Bicycles considers comfort and stiffness to be extremely important. The latest Museeuw Bicycles look like modern racing bikes, featuring lightweight frames and a modern graphic design. The stiffness readings are impressive and comparable to those of professional racing bikes. However, FlaxPreg Museeuw Bicycles are nice and stable and make for a wonderfully relaxing cycle ride.
